I recently completed a 9 month commitment volunteering at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-TALK), and the local contact lifeline (also crisischat.org ). I would like to think that I did something good for someone else, but really it was an incredible experience that allowed me to learn more about myself. Just in the training sessions, I was given invaluable information that has made a difference in my life. I would recommend that everyone volunteer for something at some point in their life.
Due to my experience and my position on the paper, I recently was given the privilege of writing a feature length article on suicide and suicide prevention in Hudson Valley Community College’s Hudsonian Student Newspaper.
